ANATOMY OF THE SPIRIT
- by Carolyn Myss
Carolyn Myss is known for her practice as a medical intuitive, using spiritual health as the foundation for having good physical, mental and emotional health. She synthesized three spiritual traditions–Hindu, Christian, and the Jewish Kabbalah, to form her philosophy of what “Spirit” is.
The basic premise of Myss’ treatment system is that “Your biography becomes your biology.” All physical, mental and emotional issues can be traced back to spiritual stressors.
Energy is everywhere, and everything is made up of energy. Our bodies are surrounded by an energy field, which reflects our physical, mental and emotional states. The emotions we feel as a result of all of our experiences, both internal and external, affect the formation of our cell tissue. A person’s health status can be assessed by someone who can read their energy field.
According to Myss, “People rarely choose consciously to create an illness.” It develops as a consequence of our attitudes and actions before we realize they are toxic. Whatever we consider to be our power source can be problematic if it is something like money, a job, a spouse, etc., all of which can be lost. This loss of our power source often creates illness; we feel helpless and at the mercy of a world which has no care for us. That is why we need to obtain our strength from our Spirit, which is eternal.
In conventional medical treatment, the patient gives the doctor or other medical
practitioner the control to find a “cure” for whatever ails him. Although the cure can stop or alleviate the progression of an illness in the physical body, it does not heal the Spirit, and the illness is likely to recur. In Holistic healing, the person takes responsibility for their healing, learning to release negative energy patterns and allow the energy that love creates to take root.
Myss’ book can be briefly summed up as follows: (1) All are One (2) Negative
judgements create negative consequences (3) Surrender personal will to Divine Will (4) Live in the present moment (5) “Believe as if it were true now” – Book of Daniel
Myss goes into much greater detail in how concentrating on each of the seven chakras will lead to growing Spiritually. This is a book which has a lot to digest, and which is worth taking time to understand. You can find this book in our Unity bookstore.

Notes From a Skylark
By Schuyler Cronley
Christ of Galilee
In the ever-radiating Presence of a power I cannot see;
I can feel the Christly essence of the man of Galilee.
His cloak is ‘round about me, his words clearly in my ears;
No longer do I fear the tempest, nor the passing of the years.
The loving truth he taught me will forever be my guide;
I shall no longer stumble upon the path at eventide.
For the ever-radiating presence of this power I cannot see;
Holds me safely and securely, O blessed Christ of Galilee.
