You are the Light of the World
“You are the light of the world, let your light shine!” I think it is interesting that Jesus shared this very powerful statement about you, as he shared his Sermon on the Mount! And yet even today, most would-be Christian have not truly heard it. You travel around the city and you will see people putting up Christmas trees and decorating their houses with a variety of different lights celebrating Jesus’ birth, making this amazing season all about Him. When he said it was all about you, and allowing all those twinkling lights, to be the variety of lights you are sharing with the people around you and with the world.
Yes the Christmas season is an very amazing time of year focused on sharing your love with your loved ones, as we light up the winter night with beautiful lights celebrating the birth of baby Jesus a little over 2,000 years ago. So I invite you to take a moment to allow the metaphor of the birth of the Christ Child, to be an awakening to the Christ within you.
Yes the Greek word Christ, actually means field of Living Energy, that is God the Life Force, stirring and moving within you. At first it is just a baby thought, that is awakening and developed by focusing on the “attributes” of the Christmas Season - Faith, Love, Peace and Joy! Yes as you develop and engage the spiritual faculty of Faith you can begin to “see beyond” the appearance of the physical world and connect (Love) with the Living Energy which is all around you and flowing through you. As you develop an awareness of this Living Energy, you begin to connect with the Life all around you, which provides an overwhelming sense of peace bubbling up within you. This peace bubbling up within you is often the point of most meditation practices and is what Jesus called the Secret Place. Yes this Secret Place is within you, and when you seek to experience a greater awareness of this Peace, a deep profound Joy will occur within you, as you give birth to the Christ Child within you. Yes a deep profound Joy will occur within you, as you give birth to the Christ Child as you awareness opens to the Field of Living Energy all about you! Then if you so choose you can live in an awareness of this Field of Living Energy “lighting up” your whole being, just as the lights of a Christmas Tree are glowing. Wow do you dare!
Many years ago, when the Ancients first decided to celebrate the birth of the Christ Child, they decided to do it during the winter solstice, which occurred on December 24th and 25th. This was the date (at that time) when the Sun’s Light began to extend itself, and daytime grew longer. Because the sun’s light began to overcome the darkness of the night’s sky, and the winter solstice became a time of celebration for many ancient culture’s around the world. The idea of light of the Christ Child moving through the ethers, just got fire and became a time of great joy!
Yes, “You are the light of the world,” and I invite you “to let your light shine” during this amazing time of year, when we are celebrating the birth of the Christ Child. How might you go about being the light of your world, allowing your inner light to shine just as the lights of Christmas Time bring wonder and delight to the night sky. How might you rise up to live in an awareness of the Christ Child within you, to be fully in this moment now aware of the Living Energy flowing through you? Can you feel it, pulsating within your heart, flowing through every fiber of your being? Whether you can or you can’t it doesn’t matter, just pause in this moment and “Shout out hip hip hooray this is a wonderful day!” And then do it again, “Shout out hip hip hooray this is a wonderful day, the Christmas season is Lighting me up and I am going to let my light shine.”
