Imagination Gone Wild

Imagination is the Spiritual faculty which we focus on in June. Normally, when I think of imagination, I am standing in my backyard garden looking at the many flowers that are blooming: the Roses, the Prim Roses, the Easter Lilies, the Yuccas, the Hibicus, and the Day Lilies and Rose of Sharons about to burst forth. But as I was standing there this morning, I felt as if I was caught up in a wirldwind that transported me to the top of a mountain, where I could watch the morning sun peaking over the mountains to the east. What an amazing morning. As I looked up, I watched an eagle flying overhead, calling out about the beauty of the morning. Then I was back in my garden watching that same eagle calling out, as a squirrel ran down the power cables to take cover from the eagle. What a beautiful peace filled morning, with the sunlight shining through the leaves of the tree against the blue sky.  What an amazing day!

The spiritual faculty of imagination is located between the brows of your eyes.  In Eastern teachings it is called the Third Eye. The spiritual faculty of imagination can see beyond the appearances of the physical dimension into the realm of Infinite Possiblities, and can shape and form the invisible ethers, in accordance with whatever you are thinking. So the big question is what are you thinking? Because most of us were never taught to monitor what we are thinking, so our imagination just picks up those random thoughts and sends us to that place. Like me standing on a mountain top watching an eagle, when I was really in my backyard garden.

The Imagination can be a very powerful spiritual faculty. So, we most learn how to harness that power and consciously direct it in accordance with what we actually desire. How do we do this? Well the Spiritual Power of Faith is a key! Faith empowers us to see beyond the appearance of the physical dimension, and into the realm of Infinite Possiblities.  As we learn to consciously do this, we can then engage the Spiritual Power of Discernment, which helps us to discern what actually is going on. With the power of faith engaged, we can guide the Faculty of Imagination in shaping and forming the Invisible Ethers in accordance with what we actually would like to experience. This takes practice.

Oddly enough the last two nights I have had a dream! I walk into a library and go through a panel door into a room with shelves of books! Each book, which looks like a Bible, says ETHERS. Oh my gosh is all I can think! The ethers, the Invisible Ethers, surround and enfold us all; it is a field of Living Energy which gives us life and our creative power.  So, I walked over to the closest shelf and took a book and opened it. A memory of my childhood came floating up into my mind. I am lying on the floor coloring with crayons in a coloring book. My father walks into the room, and sees me lying there and starts screaming at me.  “Boys aren’t allowed to use crayons, you aren’t creative and have no imagination. You aren’t artistic and can’t draw things,” and then he gave me a quick hard smack on my bottom.

I didn’t touch a crayon for a very long time, and I learned that I had no creativity or imagination. So what do you think that did to my imagination? It literally shut it down and caused my imagination to focus on the dark side of life! And since I was taught that I was a mirerable sinner and would be punished and suffer for everything I did wrong, my imagination went to work on the dark side of life. I didn’t knowingly, know I was creating a life of hardship, so I could achieve the goal of suffering.  Since being in Unity, I have focused on the power of the Imagination and how it can do the healing work that needs to be done in me and in others. With the Power of Faith engaged, I direct my imagination to see and feel the healing force of the Universe flowing through every cell of my being and healing what needs to be healed and releasing what needs to be released. Yes, this practice has done amazing things.

Namaste, I see the light in you, Rev. Patrick
