I am the place God shines through,
For God and I are one not two.
I need not fear nor fret not plan,
For God needs me right where I am.
And if I am relaxed and free,
God will do a mighty work through me.
As many of you know this is one of my favorite prayers; one my daughter shared with me when she was just three years old, after coming out of a Unity children’s Sunday School Class. It also has resolved for me a Great Debate going on in modern day Christian Theology about what God’s Will is. After saying this prayer a few times, I came away with a very different understanding of what God’s will is for me and for all of humankind.
You see the Theory of God’s Will in the Christian movement since the establishment of Constantine’s Church has been used to enslave people, into following the dictates of the Kings and Queens of the various provinces in the Holy Roman Empire. Kings and Queens were alleged to be the descendants of Jesus! Thus “the people of the land” needed to follow their wishes, or they would be punished, and if needed be executed! Then they would go to the deepest darkest corners of hell. Following the wishes of the Kings and Queens of the Church was God’s Will, so do it or pay the consequences.
Since the US’s Declaration of Independence in 1776, God’s Will has been ongoing debate in the Theologies of the Christian churches that have evolved since that time! And it has created much upheaval within those churches.
Each morning as I say I am the Place, I open my heart and center myself within Its beating and I feel the Life Force that is God flowing in and through it. After a few moments of resting within an awareness of this Life Force flowing through me, I ask ok what I am supposed to do today, guide me. Then I just let go and do what I AM feeling I need to do! Wow, the results are amazing.
I find that it is intriguing, that the Aramaic phrase The Son of God refers that perfect idea of man that exists in the Mind of God. Tt is what the Apostle Paul called Christ, a Greek word from the Hermetic, that means The Field of Living Energy that surrounds and enfolds us and stretches across the universe! “The Son of God” is the Spirit – the Breath of Life in every individual; it is the image and likeness of God that we were created in. The Infinite Oneness so loved the world, that It planted a seed of the Divine within each and every one us. And whoever believes in and nurtures this seed of potential, called the Son, (also called the I Am), will have Eternal life. They will know this Life Force flowing through them with each breath they take; and they will experience the Joy of Being in each moment. (A Greek translation of John 3:16)
I believe this is what God’s Will is for me, you and every human being, to experience the wonder, the joy, and the goodness of life! I believe this is actually how the Bible starts out! In Genesis 2, Jehovah (the Life/Force) breathed into Adam the Gift of life and he became a Living Being. Then Jehovah, escorted Adam, around the Garden of Eden, and everything he named, it is what it became. The idea of God, of Jehovah, as the Life Force, as the Living Energy as the heart beat and the breath of life is repeated over and over again throughout the Bible. This is actually part of what Jesus taught! But, then you got to look for this teaching and activate the spiritual faculty of will to find it! This is what Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3. Hum!
