Some One You Might Like to Know
Barbara Duffy

In Proverbs 22:6, Solomon advised parents to “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  These are words that have helped lay the spiritual foundation for children in order for them to be contributing members of society. We know that many parents have shared the teaching of Jesus the Christ truly by living by example, through their expression of love and compassion for others.  This is the life of Barbara Duffy.

As a young child growing up in California, Barbara’s spiritual journey began in the Methodist Church where the expression of God was defined many times by using the word sin, a word that has been utilized in the Christian church since the beginning of time.  Unfortunately, after hearing this word Sunday after Sunday, Barbara started to personalize the message and wondered, “Are they talking to me or about me?” however, after moving back to Oklahoma, Barbara’s mom reminded her that she was created in the perfect oneness of God.

Fortunately, Barbara started to read We Wisdom, a children’s book published by Unity.  This publication affirmed the positive expression of God’s goodness and was the beginning of years of Unity study.

As a mom, Barbara taught her children the same principles that she learned as a child and continued to share them as her professional career developed as an academic administrator.

What people don’t know is that Barbara Duffy is Dr. Barbara Duffy.   Dr. Barbara is very humble, a behind the scenes kind of person.  She empowers and educates others by being living by example of God’s goodness.

Dr. Barbara believes that one should trust God and as a parent the journey to spiritual growth should start early. She reminds us to teach children to understand that they should treat people the way they want to be treated.  Some would say, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”  This is a principle that she lives by.

From a far, it is easy to learn from Dr. Barbara.  Her approach to life is very simple – life is always flowing.  We must know that things are always ok, free of confusion and chaos because we have faith in God.

Between attending local theater performances, reading and painting, Dr. Barbara spends time with her family sharing words of wisdom, learning from the “young” and using her talent and skill to do God’s work here at UNITY as the Sacred Service coordinator.
