Oklahoma Regional Foodbank's Back Pack Program
Each month, Unity provides funds to a charitable organization that is of benefit
to the Oklahoma community. This month’s organization is the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank School Backpack Program. The Backpack Program, which is part of the Food for Kids Program, was initiated after a child passed out while waiting in the school cafeteria line. He had not eaten at home over the weekend. This program serves 53 of the 77 Oklahoma counties, other counties are managed by Tulsa area programs. In 2017, the Backpack Program fed over 24,000 chronically hungry children of elementary school age.
One in four children in Oklahoma live in homes that are unable to feed the family. Through the Backpack Program, kids get a backpack full of non-perishable, nutritional foods on Fridays. This food sustains their nutrition through the weekends and over school holidays.
A gift of $200 feeds one child for the entire school year. We invite you to join in Unity’s efforts to participate by adding your donation to the charitable donation box in the fellowship area of the church. Or, if you like, you can donate directly to the Backpack Program by contacting regionalfoodbank.org/donate or call 405-972-1111. Thank you so much for your participation, it blesses so many, and brings greater abundance to your life!
