Changing the Conversation

Changing the Conversation

Over the past few years there has been much conversation about the Mayan Calendar coming to an end, and what it could mean. Some talked of the end of time and this planets existence, just as they did at the end of the 19th century, and the 18th century. After all is it not predicted in the book “A Revelation According to John,” and has the Word of God ever been wrong! I guess that’s an entirely different conversation.

Others believe it was simply the end of the calendar of the very advanced Mayans civilization. No one else was around to create a new one because their civilization came to an abrupt end 2,000 years ago. The Mayan Calendar was an amazing work, charting Earth’s movement around our solar system and through the MilkyWay on a 26,000-year cycle. Their study of the stars was simply amazing, but that’s an entirely different conversation.

Others, like many in Unity, believe the end of the Mayan Calendar is a sign of spiritual transformation, the speeding up of Human Kind’s Conscious Evolution, as we step into a whole new reality here in planet Earth. After all, all the signs of transformation are there. How do we get to the Omega Point, as Robert Brummett calls it. For this to happen human kind has to change its conversation from what was, to what could be.

This change in our conversation is perhaps the hardest change for a human doer to make, because the mind is so attached to the way things have been done, and it resists the processes of change. When asked to make a change, often the human doer struggles with the change, whether or not, they liked the old way of doing a thing, simply because it is used to doing it the old way. When changes are made it takes the mind some time to take note that things are being done differently. Normally the only way the mind takes note of change is when something really bold or outlandish occurs, like when you remove a wall in a structure, or you hang a brilliantly colored picture. Subtle changes rarely catch the mind’s attention.

The way of overcoming this resistance to our spiritual evolution is by changing the conversation from what was, to what could be. The imagination is inspired by such conversations, and begins to generate ideas and an energy vortex around the possibilities of what could be. Focusing on the inspiration draws creative energy into our being, into our mind, into our community and soon action begins to take place. The one thing that holds us back is the fear of letting go of what was and the conversations that take place around it. So focus on the possibilities that lie in the transformation.

Over the past few years our spiritual community has made some pretty significant changes and those immersed in the process have not always noted those changes. We have new Mission and Vision statements, a new set of Core Vales, developing teams dedicated to being of Sacred Service, 6 – 8 individuals who are committed to completing our SEE Curriculum. Over the past six months individuals in our community have stepped forward and planned events from start to finish and coordinated their completion: The Bukeka Shoals Concert, the Shawn Gallaway Concert, the Prayer Chaplain Train the Trainers Workshop, our Christmas Parties, and our Book Study that involved over 50 people in 6 homes (out of an average of 85 people for Sunday service - wow). This is fantastic spiritual growth for our community.

What does the New Year hold? We have to let go of what was, while envisioning what could be, and allow Spirit to guide the way!
